Why People Follow the Big Cups at Frisco Fresh Market

Somebody told us once that they found our stand by following the cups.

They had not seen a sign. They had seen three separate people walking through the market holding the same tall yellow cup, and worked backward. That is not something we planned, but it happens constantly, and it has changed how we think about the cup itself.

The cup is thirty two ounces

That is the standard for our made to order lemonade, and it is bigger than most people expect when they order. There is usually a small pause when we hand it over.

We landed on that size for a practical reason. A farmers market is a walking event. You are out for an hour or two, it is Texas, and a small drink means you are looking for another one twenty minutes later. Thirty two ounces lasts the visit. If you want less, we keep sixteen ounce cups on hand, and plenty of people with kids take that option.

But the side effect turned out to matter more than the reason.

A cup that size is visible across a market

You cannot miss it. Somebody carrying one is doing something we could not buy with a banner, which is telling everyone in view that there is cold fresh lemonade somewhere behind them and it is worth walking to.

We have watched people stop a stranger to ask where they got it. That is a conversation we are not part of and it works better than anything we could say ourselves, because it is coming from a person with no reason to sell you anything.

    What people actually notice

The size gets attention. What keeps people coming back is what is in it.

Every cup is squeezed at the stand. You can stand there and watch the fruit go in, and most people do, because there is not much else to look at while you wait and it turns out to be interesting. Then it gets shaken and handed over cold.

That is the part that survives the walk back to the car. A big cup of something mediocre is just a big cup. What we hear most from people at the market is that it is not too sweet, which is the thing fresh fruit does and sugar cannot fake.

Why we do not shrink it for events

People sometimes ask whether the catering cups are smaller than the market cups. They are not. Made to order catering is served in the same thirty two ounce cup.

The reasoning carries over. At an event, a small cup means your guests are back in line in twenty minutes, and now you have a queue problem that is really a cup size problem. Sixteen ounce cups are available on site for anyone who wants less, which is mostly kids and people pacing themselves at a long reception.

    Where to find us

Frisco Fresh Market, 9215 John W. Elliott Dr, Frisco. We are there Saturdays from eight in the morning until four, and Sundays from ten until five.

We also run the Dallas Farmers Market at The Shed most weekends, at 920 S Harwood Street, if that one is closer to you.

Come find us. Try the classic first if you have not had ours before, because it is the honest test of whether a lemonade is any good. The flavors are there once you know what the base tastes like.

And if you want it at your event

Most of our catering bookings start at one of these two markets. Somebody drinks one on a Saturday, then calls us in the spring about a wedding.

That order makes sense to us. Tasting it first is a much better way to choose a caterer than reading a website, and we would rather you decided that way. If you are planning something and you are nearby on a weekend, come drink one and then talk to us about your event. Our packages and pricing are published if you want to look first.
